چکیده

We examine both analytically and numerically the validity of factorization for the double dipole scattering amplitude T (2) which appears on the right hand side of the BK–JIMWLK equation. We demonstrate that, if one uses a dilute object (e.g., a proton in DIS) as the initial condition, the correlation in the transverse plane induced by the leading order BFKL evolution is generally strong, resulting in a violation of the mean field approximation T (2) ≈ TT even at zero impact parameter by a factor ranging from 1.5 to O(10) depending on the relative size of the scatterers and rapidity. This suggests that, within the experimentally accessible energy interval, the transverse correlation can significantly affect the nonlinear evolution of the dipole scattering amplitude. It also suggests that the nonlinear effects may set in earlier, already in the weak scattering regime. In the case of the simulation with a running coupling, the violation of factorization is somewhat milder, but still noticeable.

An effective field theory for collinear and soft gluons: heavy to light decays

We construct the Lagrangian for an effective theory of highly energetic quarks with energy Q, interacting with collinear and soft gluons. This theory has two low energy scales, the transverse momentum of the collinear particles, p⊥, and the scale p 2 ⊥/Q. The heavy to light currents are matched onto operators in the effective theory at one-loop and the renormalization group equations for the co...

An investigation of screwiness in hadronic final states from DELPHI

A recent theoretical model by Andersson et al. proposes that soft gluons order themselves in the form of a helix at the end of the QCD cascades. The Authors of the model present a measure of the rapidity-azimuthal angle correlation, which they call screwiness. We searched for such a signal in DELPHI data, and found no evidence for screwiness. ∗On leave of absence from University of Helsinki, Fi...

Systematics of soft final state interactions in B decay

By using very general and well established features of soft strong interactions we show, contrary to conventional expectations, that (i) soft final state interactions (FSI) do not disappear for large mB, (ii) inelastic rescattering is expected to be the main source of soft FSI phases, and (iii) flavor off-diagonal FSI are suppressed by a power of mB, but are quite likely to be significant at mB...
